Lessons from (2+1)-dimensional quantum gravity

چکیده
Proposals that quantum gravity gives rise to non-commutative spacetime geometry and deformations of Poincaré symmetry are examined in the context of (2+1)dimensional quantum gravity. The results are expressed in five lessons, which summarise how the gravitational constant, Planck’s constant and the cosmological constant enter the non-commutative and non-cocommutative structures arising in (2+1)dimensional quantum gravity. It is emphasised that the much studied bicrossproduct κ-Poincaré algebra does not arise directly in (2+1)-dimensional quantum gravity Based on talk given at the conference “From Quantum to Emergent Gravity: Theory and Phenomenology” June 11-15 2007, Trieste, Italy

Euclidean and Lorentzian Quantum Gravity – Lessons from Two Dimensions
No theory of four-dimensional quantum gravity exists as yet. In this situation the two-dimensional theory, which can be analyzed by conventional field-theoretical methods, can serve as a toy model for studying some aspects of quantum gravity. It represents one of the rare settings in a quantum-gravitational context where one can calculate quantities truly independent of any background geometry....
متن کاملD=4 Einstein gravity from higher D CS and BI gravity and an alternative to dimensional reduction
An alternative to usual dimensional reduction for gravity is analyzed, in the vielbein-spin connection formulation. Usual 4d Einstein gravity plus a topological term (the ”Born-Infeld” Lagrangian for gravity), is shown to be obtained by a generalized dimensional reduction from 5d Chern-Simons gravity. Chern-Simons gravity in d=2n+1 is dimensionally reduced to CS gravity in d=2n-1 via a mechanis...
متن کاملPartition Function for (2+1)-Dimensional Einstein Gravity
Taking (2+1)-dimensional pure Einstein gravity for arbitrary genus g ≥ 1 as a model, we investigate the relation between the partition function formally defined on the entire phase space and the one written in terms of the reduced phase space. The case of g = 1 (torus) is analyzed in detail and it provides us with good lessons for quantum cosmology. We formulate the gauge-fixing conditions in a...
متن کاملQuantum gravitational corrections to black hole geometries
We calculate perturbative quantum gravity corrections to generic eternal two-dimensional dilaton gravity spacetimes. We estimate the leading corrections to the AdS2 black hole entropy and determine the quantum modification of N -dimensional Schwarzschild spacetime. ∗ [email protected] † [email protected] In recent years, two-dimensional dilaton gravity has earned a great deal of attentio...
متن کاملInduced Gravity in Deconstructed Space at Finite Temperature
We study self-consistent cosmological solutions for an Einstein Universe in a graphbased induced gravity model. The graph-based field theory has been proposed by the present authors to generalize dimensional deconstruction. In this paper, we consider self-consistent Einstein equations for a “graph theory space”. Especially, we demonstrate specific results for cycle graphs. 1 Pre-history 1.1 Ind...
